My children were already familiar with St. Elizabeth, but the way this story was written and the gorgeous pictures really brought her to life for them. We especially loved how the story of St. Elizabeth is being told to a little girl by her grandmother and that we were able to "take a peek" into their modern day devotion to her. What a great example for my little ones! I can tell this is going to be one of our favorites.Product details

I bought a copy of Roses in the Snow just recently. I don't mean to be too critical, but it really bothers me in the story that St. Elizabeth lies to her husband about what is in the basket. Then, God protects her lie with a miracle. I would imagine that it really happened like in the book, Saints for Little Girls, and that she didn't say anything but that when her husband checked, God protected St. Elizabeth with a miracle. My kids are the kind of kids who would pick up on that kind of thing. I decided not to give it to my niece, who is named Elizabeth. I will get her the book, Saints for Little Girls.
This is one of my favorite stories to read with my first grader. I love to teach her about Saints in a way that isn't just reading who they are and what they did. This book helped her learn a little about a different culture as well as Saint Elizabeth.
I love all the books by Dessi Jackson. Another wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated book for children. The water color illustrations are gorgeous. Great book for girls.
How wonderful to read this book, and to find all the Hungarian details, like the Matyo embroidery and ribbons, a few Hungarian words in the story, and Hungarian book titles on the bookshelf in the background! Marvelous! A BEAUTIFUL book! Highly recommended.
I gave this book to my father for Christmas. Tears came to his eyes, because his mother used to read him this story when he was a young child. My father grew up in Hungary and the story of St. Elizabeth is a treasured one. This book is beautifully illustrated. Thank you.
Most beautifully written story! The illustrations are the music! My four-year old granddaughter asks me on Skype to read this book over and over to her. She understood and was captivated by the love and kindness Elizabeth showed in caring for the needs of others. Didn't have to explain, at all. Can't wait to show her my planters with roses on the window sill next time she visits!
A great gift to think about for children and teaching them about the saints in modern ways. The saints can teach us more about life than Disney Princesses, world leaders, or even fictional characters. Why? Because they lived the struggled and embraced it from within.
